Mission Statement

Trinity Methodist

Trinity Methodist Church has an active congregation, and holds an important presence at Radstock, Westfield and Writhlington. Serving within the community is a priority, with involvement in the local Foodbank project. Additionally church members get involved with other causes further afield, such as Christian Aid and the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal for disadvantaged children abroad. Church buildings are also used regularly by local groups.

The three churches that make up Trinity Methodist Church all lie close together in an area with a strong mining heritage. Indeed miners were involved in the construction of at least two of the three current buildings. Trinity at Westfield was the first to open in its present form in 1869 in what is now the Hall (previously Sunday school room), this was followed by the current main church building which opened for worship in 1898. Four years after this and further down the hill in Radstock, building work had just been completed on another church. This new Methodist church in the centre of Radstock had its official opening ceremony on Wednesday 27th August 1902, starting with a luncheon in the previous church building in Coombend, before officially moving into the present building. Then eleven years later in 1913, at the top of another hill to the south; a group of miners in Writhlington were in the process of finishing construction on another Methodist Church to replace the tin chapel that they had been worshipping in since 1878. The tin chapel was then used as a Sunday school room.
